December 2007: 2008 LTC class dates are now online. Help us set our 2008 schedule. Take our online survey and let us know what courses you are most interested in!
Interested in NRA instructor training? We just added a 2 day course Feb 2-3 that covers Home Firearm Safety and Pistol disciplines.

More new courses added! Oct 3, 2008 InSights Defensive Folding Knife I and Oct 4-5, 2008 InSights Street and Vehicle Tactics (2 day version).

KR Training shooting team member Nathan Taylor has some shooting videos on YouTube, many shot using a "hat cam" as he runs IPSC stages.

November 2007: 2008 class dates are being added to our schedule. We have booked Michael DeBethancourt of Northeastern Tactical Schools, to teach 3 days of training on April 25-27, 2008. These courses include a Friday Weapon Retention course, a Saturday "Essentials of the Snub Revolver", and a Sunday "Mastering the Snub Revolver" course. For more details check our 2008 schedule page.

October 2007: The KR Training business office will be closed Oct 16-Oct 28. We will be checking email occasionally during this break. During this time, inquiries about classes can be directed to Tom Schaefer at 512-785-4800. Our mailing address has changed. The new address is 801 Dellwood Street, PMB 171, Bryan, TX 77802.

September 2007: There are several opportunities for new shooters to get some basic instruction from KR Training associates. Red's South and Trenton Twining are offering an introductory pistol course on Oct 6. This will be a small class with lots of one on one instructor attention. Howard Nemerov and Grace Garne are running another NRA Women on Target event at the Schaefer Academy on Oct 20. Starting in Sept, Karl will be working for TEEX at Texas A&M as a program coordinator for homeland security courses. KR Training operations will be unaffected by this change.

Basic Pistol 2 and Beyond the Basics classes originally scheduled for Oct 27 have been rescheduled for Oct 13 due to an instructor schedule conflict.

After 4 years in production, Karl's new original music CD "Respectable" was released in late August. The CD features 10 blues and R&B songs featuring Karl on keyboards, bass, guitar and vocals, with assistance from current and former members of Java Jazz, Duck Soup, UnderCover, The Fabulous GTOs, Hidden Agenda, and the UT Longhorn Marching Band. The CD was mixed and mastered by Fred Remmert of Cedar Creek Recording (Fred has also worked with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Dixie Chicks, Robert Earl Keen and many other well known Austin artists) and Texas Music Hall of Fame member Maryann Price provided vocal coaching and other advice. Nine of the 10 tracks are originals, with several Karl/Penny collaborations. Many of the musicians on the CD are KR Training graduates.

Tracks from "Respectable" and Karl's previous CD releases are now available for download from iTunes, emusic, Napster, Rhapsody and other online music sellers. CDs can also be purchased for $10 (includes shipping) by using the Paypal button on the left side of the page. One of Karl's tracks was also used in a recent Austin-produced independent film The Wildman of the Navidad, written and directed by KR Training graduate Justin Meeks.

August 2007: The KR Training team (and guest instructor) Max Michel are back from Steel Challenge. Max won the match setting new world records on several stages. Karl was 9th in the Limited division (iron sighted guns), Jamie made the top 20 and Roy and Karl made the top 30 in a very tough Open division filled with Grand Master and Master level shooters. The month started off big with 3 days of classes from USPSA national champion and US Army team shooter Max Michel. Basic Pistol 1 is almost full and we've added an additional Basic Pistol 2 on Sunday, October 14 due to high demand for the BP2 course. Advanced Training weekend is coming up Sept 29-30. If you sign up for AT weekend before Aug 29, you can get in on the class "bulk ammo buy" at wholesale pricing. Ammo prices are expected to go up by 15% in September.

July 2007: Three more classes added to the fall schedule: Advanced Training Weekend (Sept 29-30), Handgunning Beyond the Basics (Oct 27), and Advanced Training 5/5A (Nov 17). The KR Training shooting team is preparing to attend the 2007 Steel Challenge. Team member Roy Stedman recently shot the USPSA Open Nationals and will be representing us at the IPSC European Championships in September.

June 2007: Due to severe weather the Basic Pistol 1 classes scheduled for June 16 have been rescheduled to Saturday, June 23. LTC renewal class scheduled for June 16 is still on.

April 2007: Due to high demand we have added another Basic Pistol 2 class on Saturday, May 26th. I just added a new "100 round practice session" file that defines some simple drills that anyone can do at almost any shooting range. Due to demand we have added another LTC renewal class this month on Saturday the 28th.

March 2007: Class dates for May and June are now online. KR Training instructors Karl Rehn and Justin Galindo are back from the 2007 Polite Society Tactical Conference, held at the Memphis Police Academy, sponsored by Rangemaster. This year's event included a pistol match (indoor low light and outdoor stages) and dozens of seminars taught by instructors from Crimson Trace, Rangemaster, Shivworks, and other schools. Representatives from the US Shooting Academy, Tactical Response, InSights, DTI (John Farnam), other private sector schools and numerous local, state and federal law enforcement agencies were present. Karl and Justin ran four 2-hour "force on force" scenario sessions as part of the event. Karl finished 2nd and Justin finished 11th in the pistol match. Some photos and a write up about the event are here.

February 2007: Spring classes are filling up quickly. Basic Pistol 1 coming up in March is already full. Basic Pistol 2 in April is full. The class is cross-listed with the UT Informal Classes, and they still have 3 slots open as of Feb 23. KR Training instructors Karl Rehn and Justin Galindo head to Memphis later this month, to run Airsoft force on force scenarios as part of the annual "Polite Society" Tactical Conference. The conference outgrew the old Rangemaster facility and has moved to the Memphis Police Department academy this year.

Spaces are still available in our March "Advanced Training" weekend. The AT weekend is one of our best courses, including 20 hours of training in defensive handgun skills, tactics, force on force scenario training, low light shooting and more. This class is only offered twice a year.
