FALL 2016 FORCE ON FORCE TRAINING
If you are serious about being prepared for self-defense, you need to do more than live fire. Force on force training is full context scenarios against live opponents, using non-firing "red guns", Airsoft and/or Simunition. Claude Werner's list of negative outcomes for armed citizens includes tactical and legal errors that aren't trained or tested by live fire drills.
If live fire drills are learning your scales or memorizing your lines, force on force training is full costume dress rehearsal. Anyone at the carry permit level or higher should have "take force on force training" on their personal training to-do list.
We have multiple opportunities for force on force training coming up this fall: the Street and Vehicle Tactics course Oct 7-9, the Advanced Training 2: Scenarios course Oct 15, the AT-5: Tactics Laboratory class Oct 29, and the Armed Parent course Dec 10-11.
INSIGHTS STREET AND VEHICLE TACTICS
InSights Training is one of the nation's oldest and best training schools. I've taken almost every course they offer, and KR Training hosted them frequently in the late 90's and 2000's. InSights, run by chief instructor Greg Hamilton, were pioneers in offering truly integrated training: firearms, knife, street and vehicle tactics, unarmed self defense, low light shooting and medic skills.
The Street and Vehicle Tactics class is one of the best they offer, covering these topics:
- Awareness of how street crimes are committed
- Spotting and avoiding common crimes
- Tactics that prevent confrontations: verbal skills, body language, tactical positioning, minimizing target indicators
- Tactics necessary to win if it comes to physical violence: use of cover, maneuver, knowledge of danger areas
- Countering both road blocking situations and "carjacking"
- Dealing with post-crisis management: security and containment, interaction with witnesses, interaction with responding emergency personnel and investigating Law Enforcement
We are hosting this three-day course on Oct 7-9. Slots are still available.
OCT 15 - THREE CLASS SPECIAL OFFER
On Oct 15th we will be offering three classes back to back: Defensive Pistol Skills 2 (4 hours of live fire skills), Advanced Training 2: Scenarios (4 hours of force on force/Simunition scenarios), and Low Light Shooting (live fire and force on force).
The three classes are paired together on purpose, and are intended to be taken as a set. If the only training you've done has been live fire, you need force on force training, facing live opponents in a 360 degree environment, in realistic context. If all your live fire training has been in daytime, you need training and experience shooting in low light, using a flashlight.
** To get the $180 price, payment in full in advance is required. (A $220 value)
These courses are highly recommended for graduates of Defensive Pistol Skills 1.
Sign up for all 3 courses as a set for the discount price of $180 (a $220 value). To get the discount, the entire $180 must be paid in full in advance. For those with limited time or funds, each course is available separately with the usual 50% deposit option.
BEYOND THE BASICS / COMPETITION PISTOL 1
Beyond the Basics focuses on 5-15 yard shooting, improving student speed and accuracy. This course is useful for all shooters, but is of particular value to IDPA, USPSA and Steel Challenge competitors. We're offering that course 8-12 on Saturday, Sept 24.
That afternoon we are offering our Competition Pistol 1 course. It's an introduction to IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge and falling steel matches - the types of matches run in Central Texas every weekend. The class is a great way to learn about the rules, get trained in proper gunhandling for competition shooting, and shoot 4 sample stages, one from each type of match.
BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE CLASSES
In September and October we have sessions of all our basic and intermediate classes: Basic Pistol 1, Basic Pistol 2, NRA Blended Learning Phase II, License to Carry, and Defensive Pistol Skills 1. Due to our break for deer season, no sessions of these classes will be offered in Nov and Dec.
TACTICS LABORATORY - LOW LIGHT SHOOTING 2
On Oct 29, Leslie Buck, Dave Reichek and I will offer another session of our Tactics Laboratory course, which integrates gun, knife and unarmed skills. This course includes drills similar to Craig Douglas' Extreme Close Quarters Concepts course (which KR Training will host in March 2017). We've paired that course with our new two hour Low Light Shooting level 2 class.
ARMED PARENT
In December, we'll be hosting Citizens Defense Research instructors John Johnston and Melody Lauer and their innovative new Armed Parent course. This two day course specifically addresses equipment, training and tactics for parents of all ages of children, from babies to teens. Both John and Melody are experienced national level trainers and parents who carry in public.
