Both John and Melody are experienced national level trainers and parents who carry in public.
2017 PREPAREDNESS CONFERENCE
The 5th annual Paul Martin Preparedness Conference is scheduled for January 7th, 2017 at the Cabela's in Buda. This year's conference will include national level speakers as well as local experts. This year's conference is $60, and registration is now open.
ACTIVE SHOOTER COURSE
On January 14, Leslie Buck and I will offer an new course that teaches techniques for armed, unarmed, knife and improvised weapon response to active shooters. Class will include discussion of communication and evacuation planning, facility security assessment, unarmed and improvised weapon skills, armed movement in structures, precision handgun shooting, medical response, and scenario simulation.
SHOOTING SKILLS, GUN CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE COURSE
On January 15, I'll be offering a new two-hour course. It's one hour of shooting drills, followed by one hour of classroom work where students will get hands on training in gun cleaning and maintenance. There are two sessions planned back to back for the 15th. The first one is for handgun, the second is for rifle. Take both and you get training and maintenance for handgun and long gun all in one 4 hour block.
CHANGES TO BASIC PISTOL 1
Starting in January 2017 we are re-naming our old Basic Pistol 1 class to Gun Selection. The new Basic Pistol 1 will align with the "Phase 2" component of the NRA's Blended learning course, and will provide more opportunity for students new to firearms to work with their own gun (or a loaner gun), to become more proficient in basic skills: loading/unloading, gun and magazine manipulation, basic marksmanship.
If you've taken Basic Pistol 1 or Basic Pistol 2 in the past and want to take the updated Basic Pistol 1, you can attend at the refresher price of $50. The January 29 session is paired with Skill Builder, which is suitable for all students: basic to advanced.
