KR TRAINING APRIL 2016 NEWS

2016 SUMMER AND FALL CLASSES

The latest schedule is here. The website shows all the classes we've planned through October 2016, with a few 2017 classes. Classes coming up soon include:

REGISTRATION PAGE CHANGES

We've retired the old registration page and are using an updated version of the mobile-friendly registration page now. If you encounter problems using the page, please let me know.

POCKET GUN SKILLS

Summer weather means shorts, lightweight clothes, and carrying a small gun in your pocket, your pack, or some other method that doesn't use a belt holster. Little guns are harder and less fun to shoot, and drawing from a pocket or a bag takes more time than drawing from a belt.

Every year we offer our 3 hour, 150 round pocket gun course to encourage students to do realistic training with their pocket gun to kick off "pocket gun season". To make the course more accessible, we've dropped the requirement that students in the course have prior training in how to draw from a holster, so anyone with a CHL and no other training can attend.

Everybody knows that person that has a permit, carries a pocket gun, and hasn't done any training since passing their CHL course 5-10 years ago. Encourage those folks to sign up for this 3 hour, $60 class to get the training you know they need.

Don't own a pocket gun? We have loaners: 9mm, .380 and .38 revolvers. If you bring the ammo, gun rental is only $10.

We've paired the course with our 2 hour, $40 Skill Builder class, which can be taken with the pocket gun or that bigger gun that's easier and more fun to shoot.

This will be the only session of the Pocket Gun class we run in 2016. Don't miss out!

KATHY JACKSON INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE

On April 22-25, we are hosting national trainer Kathy Jackson's 4 day Instructor Development Class. This course goes way beyond the NRA instructor program, covering more details in more depth, particularly addressing issues common to training women, but applicable to training anyone. Anyone teaching CHL or beginner classes would benefit from taking this course. A few slots are still open and there's still time to register.

SPECIAL EVENTS IN JUNE

June is filled with special, new and interesting courses.

NRA Basic Pistol Blended Learning

The NRA has converted its Basic Pistol course to a "blended learning" format that combines 6-8 hours of online instruction with a 3 hour range session. The online course contains a lot of detailed information valuable to pistol shooters: details and topics that are good to know but typically covered in depth in our courses.

We'll be offering sessions of 3 hour range part of the course this summer, with the first one on June 11 from 8-11 am. Even if you have no plans to take the online course, you can still attend the 3 hour range part and run the shooting drills. The class is at the Basic Pistol 2 level and would be an excellent refresher for Basic Pistol 2 graduates that haven't done much shooting since class.

We've paired it with a License To Carry course, so those wanting the carry permit course can attend both courses on the same day, to get the same kind of skills tuneup Basic Pistol 2 provides before shooting the License To Carry test for score.

AT-4 and AT-5

On June 11 we'll offer a session of the AT-4: Pistol Skills Development live fire course

On June 18, Karl, Leslie Buck and Dave Reichek will teach a session of the newly redesigned AT-5: Tactics Laboratory class. That class has been updated to cover integrated gun/knife/unarmed material, similar to Craig Douglas' Extreme Close Quarters Concepts course, but in a lower intensity, shorter format. This class will be all force on force training, using Simunition, not airsoft.

Summer Preparedness Conference

Paul Martin's Preparedness in the Suburbs Conference is June 25th at the Onion Creek Country Club. It will be a great, short (4 hour) introduction to individual preparedness.

Hardwired Tactical / Lone Star Medics Course

On June 25-26 we'll be hosting Darryl Bolke of Hardwired Tactical and Caleb Causey of Lone Star Medics for a 2 day Close Quarters Pistol/Tactical Medicine for Violent Encounters course.

The course will focus on gunfighting in the 2-7 yard zone, with emphasis on difficult shots and application of medic skills in urban, complex environments.

RANGEMASTER TACTICAL CONFERENCE

KR Training was well represented at the 2016 Rangemaster Tactical Conference. Karl presented a training session on the results of the red dot, laser, and iron sight study he conducted for Texas A&M University. Kirk Clark, KR Training graduate, won the live fire match, with Dave Reichek placing 5th and Karl placing 7th, less than 0.2 second behind Dave's time. Photos from the 2016 Conference are online here.

Registration for the 2017 conference, which will be held in Little Rock, AR at the Direct Action Resource Center facility on March 17-19, is open. This event sells out quickly each year. It's not too early to register. Karl will be a presenter at the 2017 conference, and KR Training assistant instructor Paul Martin will also present a session on adding preparedness training into firearm course curriculum offerings.
